That's what I mean. The Asus engineer knows just as much as he does since AMD delivers binaries to the mobo manufacturers.

If AMD says it's an identified bug in the BIOS, their word is the golden standard. These aren't open-source BIOS'.

Asus' engineers are probably the pioneers of MCE which forced Intel CPUs to run out of specifications. If they say the chips require more vcore I'm inclined to believe him.

Asus engineers also make some terrible mistakes, put out some horrendous video cards and mobos with a failure rate of 50%.

I think I'll wait for the new AGESA version before I believe a board engineer for a company who tried to add PCI-E 4.0 to B450 Mobos only to have massive problems.

you may want to rephrase that because it sounds like MCE is necessary and well . . .

Once AMD chips can overclock we'll see motherboard manufacturers abuse the clock speeds to gain an edge against other board manufacturers. MCE isn't new and just like before it's still out of specifications. It's the reason Asus' R&D is testing the Zen 2's limits.

I really like MCE on my Asus h81. Also is nice for mobo/cpu combos that shouldn't allow any overclocking. You can adjust the volts as well. MCE is what you make of it. Just more options imo.

Back to AMD, that would be great if this works out and everyone who has a Zen 2 gets to see their clocks go up.

i know. used MCE to increase the all core boost clock to single core on my locked i5-2400 on the mobo i have in my sig (asus z77-v pro).

what i am inferring is asus, with their history of cranking up the voltage, might not be the best source on how much* vcore a chip needs.

*actually how little

Previoius bios' were able to hit the boost clocks....at least I was able to.

I'm able to hit them now on this version of the bios(depending on load):

Did you enable PBO? The boost should only happen on 1 core not all of them. I'm not able to hit 4.4Ghz on any of the cores at stock but I do see 3.8-4.2Ghz often.
