[Guru3D]AMD To Handle Boost Clock Frequency Differentials with Firmware Update

Quote:
This came in from AMD seconds ago in regards to the Boost clock differential discussion. AMD is pleased with the strong momentum of 3rd Gen AMD Ryzen processors in the PC enthusiast and gaming communities. We closely monitor community feedback on our products and understand that some 3rd Gen AMD Ryzen users are reporting boost clock speeds below the expected processor boost frequency.

While processor boost frequency is dependent on many variables including workload, system design, and cooling solution, we have closely reviewed the feedback from our customers and have identified an issue in our firmware that reduces boost frequency in some situations. We are in the process of preparing a BIOS update for our motherboard partners that addresses that issue and includes additional boost performance optimizations.

We will provide an update on September 10 to the community regarding the availability of the BIOS.

Yea, it's just a shame it takes a YTuber to bring it to the forefront and get attention to a issue, whether is be CPU/GPU/MB/etc.

I'm running a older bios that has the older AGESA/SMU package, and see my cpu hit the "advertised" 4.4ghz. The new bios/AGESA....nope.

I submitted the newest one to derbauer for this.

Didn't Roman say that they wouldn't be able to fix this with a BIOS update in his video? Let's hope they can.

He mentioned an Asus engineer said AMD wouldn't be able to fix this without increasing vcore. He mentions the Asus engineer's name in the video.

Just seems like an awfully risky opinion to include and not in his character.

Well, AMD provides binary blobs to the mobo vendors, so even the mobo makers can't really modify the BIOS' that much. And derbauer isn't a BIOS programmer or mobo designer, so his opinion is even less.

It was just a guess on his part, imho. If his opinion is based off mobo manufacturer sources, they're in the dark just as much as him, again, since mobo makers don't have access to the BIOS code.

It wasn't his opinion, it was an Asus engineer that stated it not him.
