Sure you do. The potential for fines creates an artificial incentive to avoid them. In this case, finding a solution was worth $110,000 more than it was if the fine wasn't levied.

110K is a wage for 1 year of an Eng. Way cheaper.

yeah, 110K is hardly worth anything when compared to finding a compound that is easy to manufacture (high-volume production), easy to implement(low defective products) and low cost.

even the equipment alone would cost more than 110K, specially for a new kind of product that requires different manufacturing procedures.
that would mean a new factory line and we'd be looking at a few billion dollars of investment for simply starting up the mass production.

trolling an adult is very dangerous, don't try it at home nor at work. you don't want to play tag with a rabid man.

and just his wage, that doesn't factor in all his other costs.

$110k is a drop in the ocean for folks like LG, and OCNer's should really source a bit to see what this is really about.

No Time to research to figure out what the Aussie Courts are getting wrong now. Anyone want to TL;DR it for me?

the corrections sum it up pretty well
Quote:
Correction: A previous revision of this article affirmed that the TVs suffering from burn-in were of OLED variety, LG has confirmed that this case refers to a separate LED technology, not OLED.
LG statement: An LG representative reached out to us to clarify that it has always been LG policy to support Australian law and that the error of ignoring Australian law was only made by a small number of call center employees. The court deemed these “were cases of understandable human error” and no “widespread or systematic program of LG misleading consumers” was present.

They probably spent more on lawyers than the fine. This case is about LED TVs not OLED according to the article and about customer service errors probably something to do with warranty. Typical troll title of an article.

I appreciate the quick Synopsis. Basically, nothing to see here, move along. Now I don't feel so bad for being too lazy to research. TY Good Sirs!

The last display I saw burn in was a Plasma TV and man it had it baaaad. It sat in a bar playing the same music station for 16 hours a day on an unmoving and mostly unchanging picture. My dad took it home and tried for years to make out an image past the mass of red artifacts before it stopped turning on and we recycled it.

Never seen burn in on OLED before. Supposedly my Nexus 6P suffers from this but I have yet to see it.

this must be the american in me, but what's the point? It's such a small sum of money, specially for the tech sector.
