[techspot] Australian courts fine LG $110,000 for misleading consumers about burn-in

Quote:
The case made it to the Federal Court in 2015, with the ACCC alleging LG misrepresented the law. Australian law specifies that products be “safe, lasting and with no faults,” and notably, “match any demonstration model or sample you asked for.” The TVs in question had been displayed in-store with no burn-in, and after one year of normal use, should be expected to function the same. An unfavorable ruling for LG and an AU$160,000 ($110,000) fine has been imposed.

You do not improve material science with legislation.

If LG could fix it they would. We need more stable compounds to make light, this is why micro LED is better. Even microLED will burn in but it might take 20x the time or something.

Unless you use your OLED for gaming with a HUD that never moves or you watch the same TV channel with a logo that never moves burn in with OLED is not a major problem
I have a LG C8 and i have had it for little over half a year and its light years better than my old plasma TV which could get light burn in / shadow of the subtitles after as little as 15 min of staying still

If you are aware of the drawbacks with OLED and you know what you will use it for burn in is not a problem
As i said if you play games with a non moving HUD or TV with a non moving logo OLED is really not the best kind of TV to buy for those use cases

Edit: i use my LG C8 for Youtube, The Great Courses Plus and videos i have on my HDD´s and almost none of that have non moving logos
Even have Windows set to change wallpaper every 10 min in case i forgot to turn the TV off

Almost 2 years with my C7 as a computer monitor. No burn-in. I play games on PC and PS4 Pro.
