Not sure why people keep forgetting that we have had Intel consumer hexacores since 2010. In 2011 with Sandy Bridge-E they dropped their hexacores price down to $600.

I am referring to PriestOfSin post about mainstream socket which is LGA 775 / 1150 / 1151 / 1155 etc.


HEDT is not mainstream platform.

The -E platforms are not, and have never been, mainstream, especially at double the price of the top-end 4c/8t. You could build a whole system below the cost of an X-chipset processor alone.
