[TECHPOWERUP] NVIDIA to Implement ReShade Post-Processing Injector at Driver Level

Quote:
NVIDIA is taking a somewhat unusual step in that it's integrating a popular tool at a driver level. ReShade has become well--known throughout the gaming community due to the way it can add - sometimes critically - to many games, whether it be purely in an aesthetics, filter-like level (which really takes no toll on performance), or by adding features that were never developed into the engine, such as ambient occlusion, SMAA anti-aliasing, depth-of-field, and others.

Don't online games ban for this when detected?
Nv isn't known for sharing with open source stuff like this.
I have to wonder if reshade will be still be a free app in the coming months.

We will see.

driver-level? meaning it can work without GeForce?

trolling an adult is very dangerous, don't try it at home nor at work. you don't want to play tag with a rabid man.

This is very interesting. It's almost like Jensen decided that nVidia should be the PC go-to in response to AMD having the monopoly on consoles (and, by extension, the advantage on a lot of the console ports). They're basically integrating into the drivers and GFE everything that set AMD apart and then more. nVidia seem to be taking over (or trying to) the entire ecosystem.

I honestly really like this. I usually lose no time with additional software, but I guess I would probably mess around with ReShade if it were built-in.

Also, guess this might be relevant: "Interesting timing: recently reshade added Path Traced Global Illumination (PTGI), while NVidia decided to open up a dedicated studio for RTX "refurbishment" of old titles."

Re-shade looks cartoony, turned PubG into fortnite, yuck, no thanks.

Nvidia gimmicks always seem desperate, this is no different.

ReShade usually just botches up the look the developers intended.

ReShade is the RGB PC hardware equivalent in PC gaming. Bad taste galore.

Hopefully this means better integration with games/less hassle setting up for average users. Nvidia's Highlight feature was giving off "side project/minimum effort" feel.
I'd love to see Afterburner and Rivatuner statistics get Nvidia's support as well for easier profile/oc and performance monitoring in-game hud, fps cap, etc.

Reshade is open source and not owned by Nvidia. How could it some day not be free? It's on Github, anyone is free to fork it and do what they want. It would have been better if it was under a GPL-3 license, then Nvidia would have been required make any modifications public since they are redistributing it.

You do realize this is just an example of some extreme changes for the sake of showing right?
Reshade or Sweetfx before can massively enhance your games depending on how it the filters are set.
A recent example i found and use myself.

The only drawback of these filters is in some cases massive fps loss so if they would put it on driver level i assume it can only be better.

I hope you never used a single mod ever cause... those aren't how the developers intended it either.

I would actually use this. DarkSouls is a great example for its use. Yes, i realize the devs want the world to be drabby to make the player feel the desperation and despair, but sometime i want something 'pretty' to play as well. The option is welcomed. Excited for this.
