The HWUB and GN reviews underscored (including via power consumption and MHz) how highly binned these 7nm 8C chiplets are in the 3950X (and presumably the 3970X TR) which might also explain the release 3950X delay, at least in part. Hopefully, TSMC will crank out enough of the high-binned 8C chiplets so that 3950X (and TR equivalent) can reach retailers in real volume.

My two cents, an overclocked 10980XE vs overclocked 3950X, the 18 core 10980XE is going to be faster. Also a little more expensive though.
10980XE all core boost is 3.8GHz /4.8 single core with a 165w TDP.

AMD might pull another jebait.

intel should do another round of price slashing on their entire line up of CL-X.

You're not looking at the whole picture here, its not just $250 more expensive, you have to look at the complete platform cost. The motherboards are more expensive and so is the ram.

If you're looking at OCing the 10980XE you're looking at a much more expensive motherboard and a more expensive PSU as well.

You could argue that cascade lake has more pcie lanes, but it only has 10% more total lane bandwidth than Zen2 as well.

What is the AVX2 all core for the 3950X? 3900X was already pretty underwhelming, dropping to 3600-3700MHz here.

Core i9 9900K @ 5.2 || EVGA Z390 DARK || 2x8GB G.Skill TridentZ RGB 4600 C18 @ 4266 C17 || GPU: EVGA Kingpin RTX2080Ti @ 2130MHz || Samsung 970PRO 1TB + 860EVO 2TB || Lian Li O11 Dynamic White || Corsair AX1600i || Screen: LG B8 OLED 55 and LG 34GK950F

Very true, If the 3950x is faster in the titles you like, or the applications you use, or the concurrent combinations you will use it for, then it is faster for you. Sounds like the 3950x will win in gaming when some more than lightly cpu intensive task is running concurrently. Maybe even lighter ones if you are running multi monitor. Even with gaming it isn't just a one brand answer.

It is so easy to get confused comparing apples and oranges. But for me, any cinebench score higher than 2/3 of what I get now will not help me get any more min frames out of my 4k60fps single monitor setup. I even will probably go to 8k before 120fps, since my 120fps in the living room isn't anything special for the usually action/rpg games I play, and I sit close enough to my 4k that 8k would make a bigger improvement. With the current games any cpu+mobo+ram upgrade is just money taken from my gpu/dream 8k tv upgrade budget. Maybe the upcoming games will change that, IDK. But them's my oranges. Get your own.

This is not stock-clock.net 😉 Try Overclick 10980xe, and see if it's embarrassing 😉

My 2 years old ancient 7980xe overclocked beats 3950x in everything but powersaving 😄

"Strange" there is no cpu-z picture of 10980xe 😉

Embargo is 27.11... maybe they just fabricated the results?
