*pre-orders fleet of teslas for all employees*

What? Gotta look good while we sell something that doesn't exist.

side note - the dude that owns the company I work for has heavily invested in a man that is selling something called "brand armor" (some sorta social media watch dog group for schools with extreme interests in athletics, and keeping their athletes outta trouble)

the only issue is it doesn't exist yet. He sold it first, and is now having to find folks to build it. whatever the hell "it" actually is. Best bit? He's hired a firm that's outside of the US. No, not India. Columbia!

So, are they going to license an instruction set or make their own? I cant find a nice place for details on what they are really offering. I am always happy to see competition though.

Given that one of them has experience with Apple, I would bet they are going to design an ARM core processor for server use. Either that, or AMD and Intel will be filing lawsuits for patent infringement when this gets close to market

Just aquihire them, why bother paying lawyers. It's cheaper.

At first I thought it was VIA making a comeback to the x86-64 performance market.
No wonder when the name literally reads "New VIA" = NUVIA.

Yet another ARM endeavour attempting to break into a market that is dominated by AMD and Intel and, to a much lesser degree, IBM. Good luck getting people to write software for ARM.

For ARM to truly compete with the power that x86 offers they would have to increase the size of their chips many fold, which would entirely negate their power efficiency. And at that level of power use you just might as well get AMD or Intel as ARM lack the instruction sets to run nearly all server software.
