50ns memorylatency vs 72-75ns stock

4700+ mhz all core vs 3800mhz? Stock

3950x is THE best if you want stock and aircooling. 10980xe is THE best if overclocking everything.
I thought about that when I saw the comparisons were using matching ram speeds. Intel can run ram faster, tighter. It isn't a fair oc comparison if you are limiting the ram to that of the weaker platform in that regard. Especially in gaming benchmarks.

Also the decline of mgpu is hurting HEDT. This cpu would be a lot more attractive if you could significantly open the bottleneck in most realistic gaming scenarios. I wouldn't buy one (and certainly not 1 year AMD) for futureproofing.

GN is doing 3400mhz mesh on a CLC. The 7980XE needs a powerful setup to do 3300-3400.

HEDT for gaming died when Sandy Bridge arrived. Intel workstations will still mostly be purchased for research while AMD rigs will be purchased for content creation.

X299 still doesn't make sense to me, they should switch their focus to Xeon-W.

That's not very accurate.

The distinction between HEDT and "DT" is no longer as clear as it was with x99.

Initial reviews show a non OC'd 10980XE doing very well in games, and a mild OC even competing with the 9900KS in games. The Intel 10 series HEDT chips are very useable for games, and can be a great choice for mixed work loads.

Never said HEDT can't be used for gaming but buying them solely for gaming is a waste of a HEDT. Just like buying a Titan V or RTX Titan for gaming.

Lol the reviewers are refusing to run benchmarks while overclocked. I want to see bench results of one of these at 4.8 or 5.0 vs Ryzen 9 at whatever they can manage - last time I checked that was 4.1GHz if you're lucky LOL

But using more power is bad, unless you are talking about gpus, then it doesn't matter.

HEDT would still be better if we had better mgpu support. There would be rich guys living it up 8k and the rest of us would be jealous.
