Well the motherboard situation has one easy solution, allow PCIe3.0 speed on older mobos with these newer CPUs. Wouldn't be surprised if some nifty mobo maker makes just that via firmware update, though it sure would be easier if AMD was more customer oriented in regards to backward compatibility.

The prices for a whole system in this segment definitely went up. Will see if I can find some perf./price comparisons in the reviews, so far nothing.

My god, who would thought AMD be where they are today. Both these chips are blowing away from intel by a huge margin in benchmarks.

Intel being stuck at 14nm has really allowed them to be stomped over. Cascade lake offers nothing of any importance and really should not have even been launched. Intels already over due for 10th gen mainstream parts and they got nothing. I imagine they will just play dead now till 2021 when 7nm is ready.

It will be interesting to see how AMD use this influx of income and market share over the next 2 years.

The best time to buy. I got my 1950X when it hit $499, and I've seen 2950X chips at ~$500 as well. I'm betting the 3970X will hit $999 a few months before the next gen shows up. And I'll probably buy one, lmao

As far as I take it Intel's CPUs are all based on 6000 series Skylake. Little improvement/issue mitigation added here and there, copy+paste more cores that's it.
7980XE > 9980XE > 10980XE at times, they really are not even getting better but worse.

Not only did they get stuck with old manufacturing node but because they coupled their design and manufacturing together they both got stuck. Nowdays as far as I'm aware they decided to decouple those two so they don't get rear ended so hard as they did in recent years because of their behemoth corporation slowness and processes. So they should be more able to make new architecture and make it on the best manufacturing they have at the time and not wait years to no end for some new node that never really comes.

Impressive performance. 8600 in CB r15 with OC? That is about twice the score of 7980XE! Hmm, do I buy 3970X now or wait for 3990X? Only concern on 3990X is that it may lose some lightly threaded perf in comparison, due to needing to cool 64 cores!
