[TweakTown] Intel GPU boss Raja Koduri teases 'mother of all' Xe GPUs

Source: https://www.tweaktown.com/news/69123...pus/index.html

Quote:
Koduri recently said the team designing the high-performance Xe GPU calls it the "faster of all silicon", and said it rubs shoulders with some of the largest silicon ever designed. Koduri recently met with the engineering team based in Bangalore, India -- where he tweeted out the Xe GPU was "the baap of all", which Wccftech's Usman Pirzada says translates to "the father of all".

With Raja referring to this Xe GPU as some of the largest silicon in the world, Pirzada thinks Raja is talking about a GPU with a die size pushing 750-800mm2 -- this would make Intel's new Xe GPU one of the largest GPUs ever designed. With this, we should expect some great performance but we're still a while out from that.

Unfortunately, all that means is that it's gonna be expensive and have poor yields

thats ok, this is for datacenter/whatnot.

let them pay the big bucks.

Maybe there will be some cut down "Aurora"s that Intel will sell at a more promotional price.

In b4 it is a 500 Mhz GPU that needs exotic cooling anyway.

My guess is that Intel's big gpu will scale up similarly from their igpu as AMD.
My 2015 m-5y71 tablet needs fanless passive cooling for more MHz in it's 6w soc.
Passive isn't that exotic, but not too many turn off the fans.
IMO it would be a waste to not run it faster.

I recall Raja hyping up Vega as to be something far more than what it delivered, so I'll reserve my judgement until I see an actual product shipping with independent numbers to quantify performance.

Ryzen 9 3900X | Acer Predator XB271HU | EVGA GTX 1080Ti | ASUS Crosshair VIII Hero | 512GB Samsung 970 Pro | 1TB Samsung 860 EVO | Corsair HX850i | Corsair 900D

Haaahaahahahaaaa

Isn’t he a bit out of his element? From underwhelming AMD products to foundation shaking intel products?

Either way, don’t care. Just be competent enough to end the duopolized circle jerking.
