Well, for the market it is intended for, Hackintosh isn't going to be the option.
Threadripper doesn't support more than 256GB since it doesn't have proper RDIMM support so EPYC would be the better comparison.

I think it's fitting we're talking about cars in this thread, considering this Mac Pro costs about the same.

I can understand the price of the monitor to some degree -- it's pretty impressive.

But the Mac Pro itself is ridiculous. The base specs include an 8-core 3.5GHz Xeon, 32GB RAM, 256GB SSD and an RX 580. For $6,000 USD or $10,000 AUD.

Seriously? Wat?

It's like you're paying $3,500 just for the chassis...

Also, I wonder why they went with "6K" for the monitor and not the more standard "8K."

It would be an instant buy from me if it was an 8K monitor (SST). Anyway, will definitely be picking up one of these monitors. The Mac Pro itself? Nah.. I think a maxed out Xeon 3175-X with 8x NVMe RAID-0 SSDs and 256GB 3600Mhz RAM will outperform even the fully maxed out Mac Pro (except for the 1.5TB RAM which by itself is a $25,000 option).

Off the top of my head, maybe 6k is where bandwidth topped out on across a thunderbolt cable at 60 hz 10-bit color?

You're forgetting the "I have an Apple product fee" of $3,499.99

The reason has to do with the fact that in the base model there are a lot of things that increase the price. It's like getting TRX40 MB ~ $1000 and using 3900X.
