So performance wise this is approximately just an RX 580 at a higher price? Why bother?

It should be good with sales. Also, RX 580 is old not (2016 arch). If you only care for 6 months for this card then its probably a bad idea but if you plan to keep for 2-3 years than its will end up faster as RDNA gets the main focus. Polaris is dead. The only reason it did fine its because AMD had nothing else in that price range. Come back after 1 year with 2020 games and see is they are the same pef.

If you have a 580 don't bother. If you don't have a 580 then you might look at a 5500 if the price is right.

5700's replacement for Vega's
5600's the real replacement for 570/580.Remeber the 580 was about usd 280 to 300 when released.
5500's replacement for 550/560.

if you look at it that way which i'm sure AMD is looking at it,then it's accually a good upgrade of previous gen.

You define good as roughly same performance for same price? = no value improvement nor performance improvement? I don't.
They need to punch harder, right now they are providing alternative to Nvidia's low to mid range of NV's products at best.
Top tier AMD chip similar performance as low end 106 chip from NV. AMD pretty much gave up and holds an agreement with NV to not compete but just stay alive at the bottom under NV's foot.

It seems that way because Polaris is heavily discounted.

5500XT = Low powered RX580 = This has it's uses, a bit of a let down though. The price should be lower by $15-25.

AMD has to replace Vega 56/64 segment, I mean nvidia has the 1660Ti/2060 while AMD only has 5700 around 150 more than this.($100 on sale, with reference design)

I mean If I had known that AMD would release a RX 5600 XT with around same performance as Vega 56 for $250 I would have waited instead buying a RX Vega 56... also the only big advantage should be power consumption and a slighly better architecture with a lower end chip

should be 150 or less, but since it uses GDDR6 and 7nm this might not happen until next year maybe AMD will sell them for way less, since Ampere is going to be better than Turing and RDNA2 probably will only compete with higher end of Turing
