[Toms] Acer Predator X32 Mini-LED Gaming Monitor Hits a Radiant 1,400 Nits Brightness With HDR

Quote:
The ultimate HDR experience calls for a couple things. For one, you’ll want a super bright screen, and then there’s the experience afforded by a full-array local dimming (FALD) backlight that allows the monitor to display differing levels of brightness in different zones. The Acer Predator X32, a 32-inch 4K gaming monitor arriving in Q1, will bring all that and then some. It’s destined to be a merr as the second mini-LED PC monitor available and one of just two monitors certified to deliver HDR content at least 1,400 nits brightness. That luminescence comes at a cost though: the Predator X32 will cost $3,599.
FINALLY
This thing is truly insane. It's basically everything we've been waiting for.

  • 32"
  • 4K
  • G-Sync Ultimate
  • 1152 mini LED local dimming zones
  • 1400 Nits Max Brightness

i remember OLEDs used to be advertised as capable of thousands of Hz refresh rate out of the box, i wonder what happened to that.

trolling an adult is very dangerous, don't try it at home nor at work. you don't want to play tag with a rabid man.

That price is almost 2x what I paid for my Accord back in 2014. And the fans are probably 2x as loud, too.

oi vey. I really hoped we'd see some less than 55 OLEDs this year. I suppose I've gotta stick to my guns about it being a 2021 thing.

I was in the same boat. I wanted 40" 4K OLED but now after having 55" 4K OLED I want 8K 55" OLED and run it at 200% scaling for super sharp image.

yeaaaaap. I'll eventually cave & just go C9 at some point, when it goes on super sale mid year. I just really don't have the room for it, and won't until I move

$3,599 isn't what we mean when we say we want a really nice four-kay monitor.

I'm willing to go $2000 or so for a best in class, but not for something that is 16:9

Yes, just like plasma before it the actual response time in in the tenths of milliseconds or better. The problem is that you cannot yet send a signal with that refresh rate over anything but a proprietary and very expensive video link right now. Even if you could we dont have hardware to push that many frames per second.
There was talk about frame amplification in GPUs a while back, where basically the GPU would take your base frame rate it can output and before it sends to a monitor it would interpolate into the 1000+ fps range based on previous frame, current frame, and data it already had of the partially rendered next frame. Nothing ever came of it though. Probably because we dont have video links that could handle 1000fps or monitors that can support 1000+hz refresh rates so such a frame amplification tech is useless right now. Hopefully we will stop at 8K resolution for a while and just keep increasing link bandwidth to get to the point where we can support 8k 960hz (probably two HDMI major generations away, or one generation using dual inputs). Then with tech that can support it, maybe we will get ways to display it.
