It looks like iron mans monitor with that blue thing on the back.
Would be interesting to see how this tighter radius is much better.

There was enough of a market for previous 49" ultrawides that they had reason to make more. This is genuinely very surprising to me.
Seems like a niche already served by 4k TVs where people who want more screen space probably want more vertical space too.
I can't imagine too many gamers buying these things at their prices, the niche who ever used 3 screen surround gaming this would appeal to is likely so insignificant i'd hesitate to call it a market, and surely even fewer who'd even bother outlaying the cash just to remove the bezels from existing surround setups.. and then those few probably already having 34"/35" ultrawides surely don't care enough either.

I suppose I could imagine the odd rich eccentric or two having two of these stacked for an absolutely mad amount of screen space. I'd like to see that.

They do, but only a measly 10 zones (so the edge-lit zones are about 5 inches wide lol). You can see the RTINGS review on the current 1440p/49":

https://www.rtings.com/monitor/revie...ng/c49rg9-crg9

Terrible contrast ratio for a VA, terrible "local dimming", terrible black uniformity, HDR real scene only 649 nits.

Why even consider OLED then...

Can you imagine an HDR scene of a starry sky on this with 10% 1000nit and 2000:1 with 10 zones? The entire screen would just look white.

it makes perfect sense to me, its 3x monitor gaming, without all the hassle of spanning, etc.

however, I still prefer 4K over the stretch of ultra wide, even @ 3440x1440.

Why buy a display with perfect blacks, perfect HDR highlights, near-0 transition times, and accurate color when you can buy a 2000:1, 10 zone, slow VA monitor that makes it look like you're spending the night in the Arctic during the Summer Solstice?

ok, was just checking...

because its aesthetically pleasing & will look epic on my IG/Twitter/Reddit post.

also, no one looking at the photos of my super sexy desk will be aware of the extreme stretch present in many titles, with the extremely lacking vert in comparison. LMK when someone makes 2-3 1440p's fused together in portrait. 7860x2560? now that's a screen I could get behind. Maybe something like that will exist OTW to 8K, a decade from now.

I almost forgot to mention the awesome ability to see thru walls in many titles when having such a stupidly stretched resolution

We're going to reach a point someday where we'll need a rear-view mirror on top of our monitor to see what's happening behind us because the monitor is hecking 360°.

awesome idea. rear view monitors.

if it were possible, it would've been a thing in the OG quake days where people played w. stupid high FOV.

That would be awesome for racing games... look over your shoulder to see what's next to you...but VR would be easier.
