[AnandTech] Matrox Unveils D-Series Graphics Cards with NVIDIA Quadro GPUs

Quote:
Matrox Graphics is one of the oldest graphics card manufacturers still in business today. It started to make video cards in 1978, several years before ATI, and 15 years before NVIDIA. While the company's own internal GPU development efforts petered early this century, the company has continued on as a specialist card maker, using other vendors' GPUs to make special-purpose multi-monitor solutions. Since 2014 the company has been using AMD’s GPUs for its boards, and earlier this month the company inked a similar agreement with NVIDIA. This week, Matrox launched its first NVIDIA-based graphics cards.

The Matrox D-series family of multi-display graphics cards based on a custom-built NVIDIA Quadro embedded GPU and carries 4 GB of GDDR5 memory as well as four DisplayPort 1.4 (D1480) or four HDMI 2.0 (D1450) outputs. The D1450 supports four monitors, with a maximum resolution of up to [email protected], whereas the D1480 adapter supports four monitors with resolujtions up to 5120×[email protected] The card consumes 47 W and only uses power supplied to it through the PCIe x16 slot.

I am shocked that Matrox still exists.

They make onboard graphics output for rackmount servers. My HP Dl360 G8 has Matrox onboard video.

I remember wanting a Matrox card when they were the only game in town for Surround... but could never justify the terrible performance.

I'm not surprised they're still around - they did some crazy screen setups for medical and other super-high-end stuff. I seem to remember a press release where they were touting 16 4K screens off a single card? I forget. I do miss Cirrus Logic, though.

Yeah... and they are an endless pain; just about workable at 480p, but turn the res up to anything reasonable and suddenly console refresh rates drop into low-digit FPS. I have Matrox "GPUs" in the server boards I have.

What no HDMI 2.1 or DP 2.0?

I'm surprised Intel didn't buy them out.

Odd Matrox would start working with Nvidia, who has a history of making display outputs claiming the new specs, only for people to buy new monitors and find Nvidia doesnt conform to spec properly. With this upcoming transition to new connections, I expect similar issues with Nvidia since they have done it twice already now. Matrox cant afford to sell a bunch of customers defective cards from Nvidias screw ups.
edit to fix a mistype of a word cause Asmodian can't understand the meaning behind individual words.
