[TechSpot] Samsung to Microsoft: The Xbox Series X should support ultrawide monitors

Quote:
Speaking to PCGamesN, Samsung said it is pushing Microsoft to enable ultrawide aspect ratios on its consoles, possibly starting with the Xbox Series X that launches this holiday season. “We’re pushing, we’re talking,” a Samsung rep told the publication.

With 21:9 and 32:9 monitors becoming more popular, an increasing number of games are supporting the ultrawide format. But while the PS4 Pro and Xbox One X support 4K resolutions and HDR, they’re limited to a 16:9 aspect ratio.

I wounder if this would lead to ultra-wide TVs.

Don’t think ultrawide TV’s would work at typical viewing distances.

There are UW TVs on the market but the market never took off for them, which is sort of surprising considering how many movies are in near 21:9 aspect ratios.

If they ever became fairly adopted like their PC monitor counterparts I'd happily buy one but the support for them is little to none.
I use a UW at work and at home so a 21:9 TV would fit right in with me. lol

Because ultrawide is about immersion and that can't be achieved at couch distance.

So in your mind, a screen has to be either tiny, like a PC monitor, or huge like a movie screen in order to be immersive... but a TV sized screen can't be?

My 65 inch 4K TV begs to differ.

I'm talking about the ratio of viewing distance and size of the screen.

The ratio can be the same in case... that's how ratios work.
