You can even run 9xxx series on DDR3 if you want.

It's what I'm considering as a budget upgrade for my brother on 2500K.
Z170 boards are cheap and I already have enough DDR3 memory.

Give the russians and chinese a few weeks and they will figure it out.

Intel very often introduces a socket which is only physically incompatlible but would otherwise work perfectly fine.
PGA478 CPU's were compatible with LGA775.
Some BGA intel mobile chips (with eDRAM) were released in china on LGA1150 adapters. They could overclock just fine.

It's an endless cycle of Intel fighting the modders.
Basically cover/swap some pins and mod the bios.
Intel Management Engine is the main culprit in most cases.

Even the fastest pc in the world cannot beat imagination.

IME is Satan.

I can run upwards of 200 BCLK on my 9900K, but if I put in a G5400 or any other non-K CPU and anything above ~103 doesn't POST.

all Z390 boards all have an external clock gen (AFAIK) but Intel artificially makes it break with non-K SKUs

Holy cow I'm back to thinking I'll get an i-9900k and rtx2080S this summer, on my z370 mobo, just power limit it if needed, and worry about a z390 next fall if needed at all.

B550 sounds good, however i don't like how motherboard manufacturers have entirely focused their line into "GAMING!!!!!" functionality.
e.g. i hope they make an ITX with *6* sata slots so Node 304 can be fully put to use.

trolling an adult is very dangerous, don't try it at home nor at work. you don't want to play tag with a rabid man.

there's no reason to build an Intel rig in 2020 unless you need QuickSync, go AMD.
