Imagine paying over 1400 for a phone that’s using inferior metals. At least all the flagship iPhones look and feel premium. You can’t say the same for the majority of ****droid phones.

No they aren't. A little over 10 years ago, flagship phones (which aren't really missing any features modern smartphones have, they just have worse versions of those features for obvious reasons) sold for around $350 - $400 or ~$410 - ~$470 adjusted for inflation. The price of non-flagship phones are around the same price or more than non-flagship phones from a little over 10 years ago. The only exceptions where phones genuinely are cheaper are those $30 dumbphones you can buy these days. And even then, they're not that much cheaper than they used to be. Around 10 years ago, I saw dumbphones selling brand new for not much more than $50 which is around $60 adjusted for inflation.

I don't think so. Five years ago anything sub 300€ was utter garbage. Nowadays 300€ buy you a great phone and the diminishing returns is pretty much a flat line.

A little OT but if anybody is looking for a refreshing "back to basics" look at phones, check out the Samsung Xcover Pro. It's likely going to be my next phone when my S7 Edge finally kicks the bucket.

It's designed to be a rugged "business" phone but the coolest feature is that it will have a removable battery. First major phone to do that in at least a couple years I believe. I heard it's going to be 500 bucks on Verizon, not sure about other networks.

I miss $250 GPUs that could still play everything.

Phones are getting bigger and bigger. What's the limit these days? I remember when the first Note released, people thought it was dumb and too big, but it fit in the hands of Lebron James perfectly, thus deemed for people with giant hands. Now, that size of the Note 1 is considered small nowadays. I like that the makes are maximizing the screen space with little bezel, but now it's going even bigger. Soon, a 7.5" phone, then a phone the size of the Ipad Mini.

I was hoping for 120hz, but would settle for it at 1080p, but the price is ridiculous! I'm eyeing used S10+ now. Samsung phones are never worth it at launch unless you can get a good trade in deal, else the price tanks shortly after a few months and buy then.

Why the hate for a faster refresh rate? Granted, no one is playing more graphically intense phone games at 120fps at an insanely high resolution any time soon.

Because it’s nothing more than a gimmick? It’s basically adding to the cost of phones just for the sake of it. I’d rather have superior colours of an oled than some variable high refresh rate display (for a phone obviously).

Didn't you know? Most people have trouble thinking beyond their own little box.

120FPS is "toxic gamer" now. Weird statement to make, especially because it mischaracterizes both gamers and superior framerates.

Yes! Very much so. I've been saying why not get the awesome advantage of modern tech in a mainstream $100 device. Then if you drop it or get sick of the phone it's not a huge deal to go and find another one you like better.

FWIW I just bought a new carrier unlocked LG G7 with last year's flagship snapdragon 845 + ips 1440p display + quad dac for $120 shipped to my door. The value for the dollar is just immense if you don't mind not having a bleeding edge product.

Quis custodiet ipsos custodes?
