When my Android phone is almost dead I turn on power saving which limits my CPU to 70% usage. If you would prefer your battery to die quicker just turn off power savings. With the iOS update 11.3 and newer you can do the same thing.

Performance management applied

When the performance management features have been applied, you'll see this message:

This iPhone has experienced an unexpected shutdown because the battery was unable to deliver the necessary peak power. Performance management has been applied to help prevent this from happening again. Disable…

Note that if you disable performance management, you can’t turn it back on. It will be turned on again automatically if an unexpected shutdown occurs. The option to disable will also be available.

would've been nice to have that option in the first place. bet millions of phones would've kept working fine without that update for many many months to come .

was nice for them to offer $20 battery replacements for their fudge up though

I got rid of my iPhone 6 when the battery split the housing apart. moved to Samsung and haven't had any problems since (though I did recently replace the battery and charging connector assy in a Tab S2).

A design of the device should be such that it performs as advertised for it's entirely life. Lower battery capacity is expected with age and use but the device should not slow down. If the battery is very old and needs replacement then it should notify but personally I have no problems running batteries down to low capacities, be it on Nokias or Androids. Yes the batteries don't last long anymore but the devices perform same as always and don't unexpectedly shutdown or what ever even worse.

Plus modern phones have plenty power saving features, performance throttles, probably even current/power limiters to last longer and not over stress the batteries with power hungry flagship SOCs.

What Apple did is not OK. It's similar to Intel going oh no our CPUs don't last the full warranty period, rolls out a patch to lower voltages and clocks by 1 GHz, everyone would be happy about that? Nope.

I agree they should of notified their users. I do not see an issue with them throttling a phone with a bad battery. Apple already stated they'll continue throttling phones with bad batteries. Users will get notified when their batteries are bad and have the option to disable the throttling. Again I'd rather have longer battery life than a fast phone that last 1-3 hours.

It's an amazing display isn't it? As for the stocks. NV's the one that's gonna be 10k+ a unit in less than a decade. Jensen wants to look down on Samsung from his floating in the sky on AI throne.

as for the topic at hand. the fact is, apple had to initiate a shart ton of damage control after this completely legitimate end user experience improving update. The issue was the end user. The issue is ALWAYS the end user. We just didn't know our phones were broken! thank god apple showed us they were broken!

Dude probably has a giant grin on his face while copy/pasting from corporate news sources & FAQs.

The most ridiculous thing is that Apple accolytes, knowing that Apple were intentionally slowing their phones down, still went out and bought Apple phones and products en mass. The ability of Apple to make people think they're part of some exclusive club is astounding.

I actually own an Essential phone, I'm going to be upgradong to a Xperia 1 II.

I'd rather have a phone that works than a fast phone that's dead. I agree Apple should of been upfront about it from the beginning. They weren't slowing down phones for new phone sales. If that was the case the lawsuit would of been a much bigger deal.
