I don't think marketing can overcome attainable hardware upgrades for the masses on this one.

PC is going to need better stuff to justify it's higher price. It will come out the year after these consoles, like skupples kept saying.
Apple is selling over a hundred million units per year at prices far higher than any console and with insane profit margins.
All they need to do in order to take over the whole gaming space is say "Maybe we should put a little more GPU silicon in there" and toss some coin at Activision and EA to get exclusivity on the next round of shooters.

99% of gamers would forget consoles ever existed.

I'm pretty skeptical about playing a shooter on a phone. I tried pubg mobile with my ok phone that has an 835 and didn't have much fun. Never even tried streaming to it, but I hear people who don't care about winning at shooters have that option.
Maybe you mean with a beefed up Apple TV that looks like a console and ditches the AMD graphics Apple uses for large scale graphics workloads for some new Apple apu? It can't be a fanless phone because electrical resistance exists. Unless you want mobile phone level graphics on your living room 4k.

Way better chance we will see Intel succeed with this first. They have a lot more experience with gpus. And they even expressed some intention of going after the gpu market.

I'm not saying Intel has any reasonable chance at competing with AMD in consoles in the near future either. Nobody does.

Speaking of Intel, didn't they try to break into a market in the recent past, with a huge follower base in a closely related market? Didn't they pretty much give away their chips for free and people still didn't want them even though atoms were much closer to arm in performance than Apple could ever hope their gpus to be to AMD's next gen console apus?
Check the reviews of the Zenfone2 or Leagoo T5c for the x86/64 cpus emulating arm underperforming.

Then try streaming any phone game to a tv and see if it can measure up to 2 console gens ago.

You should write a thesis about this - I'd love to see the research behind this wild ass position.

Publishers are scrambling to get their console games ported to Switch, why not iPhone?

Apple already has the best mobile GPUs on the market, the basic specs of the iPhone already puts Switch to shame, so what's missing?

The only reason iOS is not a direct competitor to consoles is marketing.

Keep repeating yourself. Might become the truth one day.

I kind of doubt it. It raises questions as to how they'd get 4k video out of the phone and to a bigger screen. Nobody wants to play anything serious, or have any real gaming fun on those $#tty tiny phone screens. Not to mention, good marketing isn't going to be able to overcome the fact that people want to be able to pick up their phone right here and now, and start texting or making and accepting calls immediately. Any delay isn't tolerable.

They also want to do this without a dead battery. As well as the phone not getting hotter than people are comfortable with. I'm just not seeing how this phone is going to be able to sit there on your couch or on your coffee table, and do ALL of this. Not right now anyway. Maybe 5 years from now, but not right now. You'll need to explain the setup much more specifically. What all cables are in use? What about any lag vs a console? I realize most of these questions are answerable but trying to get a phone to do double duty while still being a good phone experience, seems like a stretch. There's a lot of little things that they'd need to get just right. Something small is often a deal breaker for most people.

It's a lot more convenient to just toss the phone to the side, and pick up the controller and start playing one some other device that doesn't need to move, or to do anything else in a very short amount of time. I see what you're saying about the iphones being powerful enough to compete with a console in terms of gaming performance. Since the consoles always use what amounts to... a card that would be a few generations old in PC land. But a phone pulling console duty? There's too many "real life" barriers there.

apple would be hard pressed to get people over 16 to game on touch pads.

you're delusional, and prove it time and time again.

if apple thought it could profit from taking over gaming, they would be doing it.

instead, they rather just take a cut from the transactions on their store.

though I have heard Amazon and other non-gaming entities are now entering the fray, so maybe, eventually, apple will release a gaming unit to people who can't afford, but must have it. like the majority of their customers.

life tips - if you consider yourself poor, but have a top of the line phone, your priorities are out of whack, and your poorness is no one's problem but your own, as you aren't poor, you just poorly manage your limited funds. Like, if you're only able to afford ramen, but make your monthly phone & service payment on time, you're doing it wrong.

R.I.P. Zawarudo, may you OC angels' wings in heaven.
If something appears too good to be true, it probably is.
Best R0ach Quote of all time : TLDR: Haswell might be the last legit gaming platform unless mice get their own non-USB interface on some newer architecture.

I would love to see santa monica do a series x exclusive and push the limits. Or naughty dog even. What God of War did on the Ps4 was impressive as heck to me. I couldn't imagine what they would do with this, I'm sure they will blow me away with the ps5 as well but this is more powerful.

The Lightning port. We do 4k over Type-C, the lightning port will be fine.

Also I think you need to look into what a Switch is.
