The specs on both consoles are really good, but I wonder how they are going to fit in the 499$ price tag. An equivalent PC would cost 1000 dollars.

Why both? Unless Xbox has great exclusives not coming to Game pass there's little reason to buy an Xbox anymore, specially if you get a PS5.

.

I'm not the only one in my household who games and my wife doesn't do PC gaming. Additionally there will be some xbox exclusives that I would probably rather just play sitting on my couch and I don't have an HTPC.

I've been saying it a lot but yeah the Series X is going to make sense as a HTPC alternative for a good chunk of PC gamers. Simple setup and simple to use for other people who might use it, Game Pass bundles and Play Anywhere make it easy to go from your desk to the couch and it's just likely to be the better place for 3rd party titles that you might switch to console for to play with friends who don't play on PC. Sure there's a lot more a proper HTPC will do but there's the cost and simplicity argument which does matter for a living room, especially when shared with others.
Personally if I could only choose one I'd pick the Series X because it makes more sense for the household. If I get a PS5, it's really only gonna be me playing 1 exclusive at a time as they come with large amounts of time just collecting dust between..

But then again my brothers probably gonna get a Series X anyway, so I will just get a PS5 for myself.

Everyone's freaking out buying all the toilet paper and im here just like "i hope i get this corona thing and i hope it kills me"

If I'm not wrong, Consoles have been sold @ loss before & It seems like they will sold at loss this time too.

But this time the hit would be bigger or of course they might just price it higher.

Now? Sure. When they drop with the new PC parts that will come out right before either is released at the end of 2020? Probably $800ish.

The SSD is probably worth 300$ by itself. Just hard to project a 250 watt plus system with high end components at the mid level price point.

Interesting differences, but price and game availability will be deciding factors as well.

I dont think the SSD will be much faster than the Xbox. Microsoft did state that they built a brand new protocol for data transfer that is supposedly 4 to 5x faster than current protocols. That would put it at around the same speed as Sony's. I would say Technology wise the Xbox with its complex Hyper-V and containers for games is a monster that will edge out the PS5 in performance. I just dont think many will be able to tell the differences between the consoles while playing the games though. This leads me to think that the PS5 will edge out the Xbox if it is 100 dollars cheaper.

We already know that the PS5 storage solution is twice as fast as that of the XSX. See the link in the OP. Both have real-time decompression hardware.
