[TechSpot] [email protected] now has access to over 470 petaFLOPS of distributed compute power to research Covid-19

Quote:
What started as a call to action from PCMR and Nvidia has resulted in some 400K volunteers joining [email protected] to donate computing resources aimed at studying Covid-19. Before gaining traction within the PC gaming and enthusiast community, Dr. Greg Bowman stated there was around 30K active volunteers folding Covid-19 related WUs.

According to Bowman, with just 30K volunteers dedicated to Covid-19, [email protected] was around an estimated 100 petaFLOPS of computing performance. Now, with over 400K, [email protected] is capable of 470 petaFLOPS of distributed computing performance. Or, put another way, about twice the peak compute of the Summit supercomputer. Summit has a peak compute of 200 petaFLOPS, with a LINPACK benchmark of 148.6 petaFLOPS.

So [email protected] now makes up the worlds largest super computer.

I really wish I could change the headline to something that really expresses this. Something like, "[email protected] now world largest super computer".

Good on everyone who is currently helping out! If anybody here has any spare hardware i implore you to start! You can set it to LOW or Medium if you are worried about power costs etc!

I like to have fun.

You can donate CPU idle cycles to [email protected] They have started to send COVID-19 related work to the clients.
