[AnandTech] Microsoft Springs A Surface Refresh: Surface Book 3 And Surface Go 2 Plus Accessories

The big changes this year are all under the hood. The Surface Book lineup now features Intel’s Ice Lake processors, with the Core i5-1035G7 as the base option on the smaller 13.5-inch model, and the Core i7-1065G7 as an option on the 13.5, and standard on the 15-inch Surface Book 3. RAM options now allow for up to 32 GB, thanks to Ice Lake’s use of LPDDR4X. Microsoft has paired the new processors with new GPUs as well. The smaller device bumps the GPU from the NVIDIA GTX 1050 in the previous gen to a NVIDIA GTX 1650 Max-Q with 4 GB of GDDR5 for 2020. The larger Surface Book 3 gets a new NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1660 Ti Max-Q. For those that need Quadro, Microsoft is also offering the Quadro RTX 3000, which is actually a pretty big jump in GPU size compared to the GTX 1660Ti, going from 1536 CUDA cores up to 2304 on the RTX Quadro 3000. There may be some questions as to why Microsoft opted for a GTX 1660 Ti when the RTX 2060 Max-Q is available, but the RTX model is quite a bit more power hungry in most scenarios.
Exciting specs! I'll be ordering a new 13" MacBook Pro though.

I'm sorry to hear that you will soon be wasting some money.

I like how Microsoft has consistently used the surface line to show oems what they should be aiming for while arguable taking the crown for apple in terms of great design. They sell will but the sales aren't even the main reason for these products to exist.

How am I going to be wasting money by buying a superior product for a cheaper amount with less headaches?

Well this thread is already shot. GL next time.

BTW the Surface Pro I used at my old job had a wicked nice display. But the heat and charging issues really held back what would have been such a nice product. Still waiting to hear if those problems have been fixed.

The premium for being small is so freaking high. Surfacebook 3 starts at $1600 and a normal laptop with the same chip starts can be had for $800.

Needs Ryzen+Navi and a 4K120hz display.
All it needs to run natively at that spec is Burnout Paradise.

I bought a 2880x1920 resolution tablet a few years ago and the biggest problem with it is the highest resolution it can run smoothly on Youtube is 720p, the iGPU just doesn't have enough bandwidth somewhere.
We just need an SoC that's built from the ground up to run high resolutions.

A device aimed a content creators doesn't need a 120hz display. Nvidia's Turing has already been proven to be a better architecture than Navi for content creation.

I can't even use my 32" monitor at 2160p without 150% scaling, no way I could use a resolution like that on a 13-15 inch screen. I think my Ipad pro has a really high resolution for a 12.9 inch screen but it automatically scales everything up to a legible size, I really wish it had lower resolution and better battery life.

Lighten up. OP posted a news article about new surface products while stating hes getting a macbook. I mean talk about low hanging fruit. It would be more weird not to mention it with a light tease of some kind.

Exciting specs! I'll be ordering a new 13" MacBook Pro though.
There's literally no reason for them not to switch to AMD for this refresh. Kinda annoys me. We need AMD to make more money off deals like this so Intel can step up the game. Can you imagine where we'd be right now withouth Zen 3
