[TechPowerUp] AMD B550 Chipset Detailed, It's Ready for Zen 3, Older AM4 Motherboards not Compatible

Dang, big blow; got a monoblock for my X470 Taichi for the Zen 3 (guess, I'll be getting a 3950X in the future instead). Really didn't expect this from AMD...

Not like there's a competing CPU manufacturer doing more than AMD for the consumer in regard to chipset support. You can't really point the finger.

Unless there is physical reason for not being compatible, this is just BS. Looks like AMD dosnt want my money then.

I don't think there can be a physical reason since x570 is current and I think all the Ryzen generations work on it. It has to be some feature that x570 has that the others don't, maybe the new chips require pci-e 4.0.

Well the chipset supports all of them. I'm fairly sure that you can go buy an x570 motherboard right now and stick an 1800x in it.

What you won't be able to do is buy a 4000 series processor and stick it in an x370 motherboard.

All the B450/X470 owners must be pissed off they won't get 4000 chip support. That's Intel levels of dick-move upgrade your motherboard every two years garbage.

I'm miffed, but really only because I don't want to have to get another monoblock/have to redo my whole loop (I put some slack in my tubes so I could unmount the monoblock and swap CPUs), though I guess I could just upgrade everything (mobo, CPU, GPU) when HDMI 2.1 cards come out and sell the PC whole/shift it over to HTPC purposes.

Didn't AMD say a while back this would happen? I know I read/heard this before months ago.

I was under the impression X570 boards did not support first gen Ryzen chips. Did board partners expand BIOS support since then?
