And people say nvidia are the only ones doing shady stuff.
I disagree, they never promised any of these features for the Radeon VII. These are probably dies that didn't make the cut for the Mac Pro. I'm just shocked they released this instead of an Arcturus which should be right around the corner.

From all the rumors out in the wild, I don't think Arcturus will make it lower stacks like Vega 20. It will most likely only live on Data Centers.

Yes they did. During release of the VII they promised pro grade drivers later on after release with some features (not all) that come with the pro grade drivers and hardware that was previously not available.
They did not release such drivers with the standard sets etc, they disconnected the card, and did not release to it features that they put into navi and polaris, because "people didn't want it".

During Q&A at apple, AMD promised full eGPU support for the VII, and then delayed those drivers for almost a year and waited until navi was release. When people started to find unorthodox ways to get it to work and gain features AMD promised on the mac, the next drivers release disabled those featuers for the VII, but not for the radeon pro. Their reasoning? "No one is using it so..."

One Driver was misreported by the media. They never promised any workstation benefits.

Quote:
Workstation performance, application certifications, and features do not apply to Radeon consumer hardware when you use Radeon Pro software, and the explicit purpose of the One Driver program is to simplify the implementation for companies that use Radeon consumer software. and use Radeon Pro products throughout their installation base

The marketing is... pretty poor? It seems just be comparing raw statistics. Comparing the card and raw number to a Quadro is dare I say, somewhat irrelevant? Nvidia works with a significant amount of ISVs in which to support Quadro to accelerate workloads in certain (not all) applications as best they can. The support offered by Quadro cards and acceleration in particular applications is I dare say more important.

Regardless, I'm curious at the timing of this... Nvidia's keynote is very soon on the 14th and I imagine they may well be announcing their new Quadro lineup too.

Ryzen 9 3900X | Acer Predator XB271HU | EVGA GTX 1080Ti | ASUS Crosshair VIII Hero | 512GB Samsung 970 Pro | 1TB Samsung 860 EVO | Corsair HX850i | Corsair 900D

Point was that every what they did promise, was not delivered. Even the standard kit which was needed for some tools, was not included and was not released.
I'm not talking about the misunderstandings, but even on their slides, the standard tools, commercial applications performance support, security features. Not released.

One Driver has worked on the Radeon VII for like a year now. Just install the Radeon Pro 20.Q2 driver if you want to use a it.

The fact you can't install it doesn't mean you gain any benefit.
it also kill certain features like xconnect, and all those extra improvements they released, did not affect the VII performance. They also tried to disable some enterprise workarounds people used for rendering on the VII that got to work with the normal drivers.

Again AMD never promised any benefits aside from a single drive hence the name One Driver. Where do you keep getting this information from without any sources?
