[Anand]AMD's B550 Motherboards Start Appearing Online

Quote:
Today is the next stage of the AMD AM4 B550 motherboard rollout: numerous vendors have started listing its models in place of an expected launch on June 16th. One big feature of B550 that B450 didn't have in the specifications was PCIe 4.0 support, and so this will be a big uplift with the new motherboards. Vendors today are unveiling the more price conscious models when directly compared to the premium X570 models.

B550 supports 128GB RAM and the Tomahawk even features a 2.5GB LAN chip. While I don't really care that much about 2.5G and don't need WiFi on the board (one less point of failure and I don't use WiFi in my network) the board is an upgrade over the Max so this looks like the board I will get.

My R5 3600, B350, and ram cost 370$. Plan to get a B550 and an 8-core Gen 3.

By Built-in Benchmark Queen:
My 2.5 years old delidded 7980xe @ 4600mhz all core with 49ns memorylatency (4000c16 twekaed) is faster than 3950x max overclocked on water in every scenario. Pretty good for a ancient cpu
In gaming it has no chance vs my new 10900k @ 5400mhz and 4600c16 tweaked memory. ~35ns memorylatency.

AMD may not be done with Matisse yet.

Some of the boards seem to limit the second m.2 to x2. It's almost like they took a B450 board an slapped a B550 chip on it.

However i like the look of the B550 mortar. It looks like a pretty nice mATX. And the second m.2 is x4.

But why? The 3900x is cheaper then the 10900k anyway. They should just drop the 3950x price.

I heard there is a board with 3 M.2s but the graphics card will run at X8.

The 3950's price will drop. Just wait.

For some reason 550 and 570 mobos for sale are scarce right now. Don't know if it is the COVID slowdown or AMD is getting ready to jump to Zen 3 real soon.

Primary: Crossover 27" 2560 x 1440, Crosshair VI, Ryzen 1600, Flair 2400, GTX 690. Secondary: MSI 890FX GD-70 R 2.0, FX-8350, HD 7790, Kingston 8 GB x 2, Western 1Tb hybrid, VisionTek 1000

The B550 is not due to come out not till June. The X570 here in the US is pretty much non existent. Maybe the manufacturers' focus on Z490s at the moment.
