which also means a potential for shake up in the PC gaming cost/perf ratio for the chips/GPUs released after the consoles drop.

It all depends how much next gen cost. if PS5 is 399 and Series X is 499, this has almost no room unless its $250 or under. If PS5 is 499 and Series X is 599 I can see this at 299-350.

This budget SKU will need to have a SSD + a similar CPU as the Series X with a GPU likely in the 5600X/5700 department, with anywhere between 12-16GBs of ram. If the series X is $600, I can see this being in the $350-400 range, depending how far they tweak it. If they scale it too far down in the CPU department and decide not to include a SSD, that will hinder performance of the Series X due to devs focusing on making the game playable on the 'budget SKU'

I'm assuming the series X will aim for 4k gaming, while this system will aim for 1080p-1440p. If they focus the scaling on the GPU front, this is easily achievable.

It's pretty much guaranteed the CPU and SSD performance will be exactly the same. Developers need the core of their games to work consistently.
Lockheart is all about GPU scaling, current rumors say it has 1/3 the GPU power. Likely the SSD is only 500GB but I can't see them allowing it to be slower.

It would still have a small SSD like 256gb for the OS and such.
ARM + Win10 (what's Xbox running anyway on x86), some cheapo memory card/flash to boot from and store current game data, network connection for cloud services.
Aka a glorified phone stuck in a tiny box same as many other already existing devices.

If they are smarter they will not even sell the device and let a TV/Phone/app be the client instead, sell a subscription only.

Yeah. I think it's more intuitive to just use other devices for a "cloud" version and at bets sell the new controller with some subscription but that's even pushing it.

I'm guessing $ 399
CPU -200 Mhz
GPU - 6 TFLOP (no less than 1X for marketing too)
RAM - 14 GB (higher than 1X for marketing)
SSD - closer to 500GB than 1TB.

Possibly discless.

I'm guessing $ 599 price point is going to be avoided due to the old Sony taboo. $ 579 or 589?
