[GameSpot] More Evidence Of Rumored Low-Cost Xbox Has Been Found

Quote:
There have long been rumors of another version of the Xbox Series X, codenamed Project Lockhart--and more evidence of its continued development has just been unearthed. As picked up by IGN, a Twitter user posted a screenshot of a reference to "Xbox-Lockhart" in the Windows OS, in response to an article claiming the rumored console is purely legendary.

If true I wonder if this will still have a 1TB SSD. Would be interesting to have two tiers from day one.

I wonder how expensive we'd be talking here? A 1TB SSD is like $100, so surely they'd go with a 480gb or something less.

I hope it's a next gen console that targets 1080p or 1440p and 2 games cheaper than the PS5 (assuming the PS5 is cheaper than sx).

It's going to be great for the market and perhaps a genius move by microsoft with the supposed economic downturns.

Who says it needs a 1TB SSD? Maybe all you need is a fast internet connection and a subscription to X-Cloud.

Unless they refresh the Xbox One X but with a more power friendly gpu but I dont see the appeal.

What's the point in saturating the market? Consoles are already incredibly low cost given their life cycle.

Enthoo Evolv TG :: Maximus X Hero :: i7-8700K :: H115i PRO RGB :: Trident Z RGB 32GB :: AORUS GTX 1080 Ti :: Samsung 960 EVO M.2 1TB :: Dell AW3418DW :: Sennheiser HD800S :: RME-ADI 2 FS

Cloud gaming only version no disc drive.

It would still have a small SSD like 256gb for the OS and such.

If its $300 then could be good. I don't think you can build a decent gaming pc for 300 with specs comparable. I don't think budget pc gamers would switch to this as you would lose access to Steam unless Xbox can work exactly like pc and allow installation of steam or steam games.

Using brand new components $300 wont get you far, but if you're thrifty you can definitely put together something decent. I guess that's the benefit of PCs, you have a lot of freedom to be selective and hunt for deals. Still it is usually the case the beginning of a new generation of consoles is tough to match $ for $ with a PC, but as the generation drags on it's easier to get a comparable PC at the same value target.
