The overclocking potential on recent batches of Zen 2 have been really good. I wouldn't be surprised if the XT models easily close to 3.6ghz all core.

Way too much of a price premium over base versions to justify.

These are really weird. 100mhz diff and no cooler but same price? Maybe these run cooler? Pretty underwhelming if we take it at face value. Hopefully there are power optimizations for more OC headroom or undervolting potential.

I would seriously wait till reviews are out .
Just not expecting much from these - no base clock improvement , little boost clock improvement , unknown thermals not seeing much worthwhile improvement over the standard X parts .
not worth the money they are asking , the price will be bonkers in Australia where I live .
I will sit on my x370 kit until ddr5 / zen4 then if I still actually have any interest in PCs I will build from scratch .

AMD just clearing stock with these pointless chips, while waiting for the release of Zen 3.

I believe you are correct !
Better margins than just dropping prices , and that appears to be the way of AMD going forward - margins first where possible .

Not trying to imply something or ask for a specific answer, I'm genuinely curious - how many people did use the stock cooler on the previous version of these chips? I know those coolers were more commonly used with the more midrange models.

Using the stock cooler on my daughter's 3700X. Never used it on my 3900X. 3950x did not come with one.

For my system flips I always bought cheap tower cooler because of aesthetics. I pretty tower with a cheap RGB fan sells faster than stock.

So to answer the question, I rarely use them, even on flip builds (except the wraith prism) I have at least 10 wraith and wraith stealth coolers combined and prob around 5 Intel stock coolers in a box in my closet.
