[Anand]The AMD B550 Motherboard Overview

Quote:
AMD’s budget motherboard range is often at times more successful than the bigger, full fat versions. Users have in the past got almost all of the same chipset features on these motherboards than they did on the X-series range. That changes with the new B500 series as consumers no longer have PCIe 4.0 on the chipset, instead reverting back to PCIe 3.0. This ultimately should not be an issue, as budget builds are unlikely to have multiple PCIe 4.0 add-in drives, for example. Nonetheless, the high vocal demand for B550 motherboards, especially after AMD launched Ryzen 3, has not gone unnoticed, and there are over 40 new models in the market, most of which should be on sale from today.

I wonder why they didn't go with a pcie 4.0 x2 link to the chipset.

I'll get that GIGABYTE Vision D when it comes down to $185.

I can wait.

I thought B550 was suppose to be a budget board. The B550 Taichi is $120 more than what I paid for my x370 Taichi.

What's more criminal is the B550 Taichi is releasing at the exact same price as the X570 Taichi. Literally no reason to buy the B550 version.

Some of the B550 boards have a bigger VRM then then the x570 boards. So it might cost a little more for the VRM. But i can't really see it being that much more. And the 2.5GbE can't be that much more pricey. I guess you are paying the premium for the passive chipset cooling.

I wasn't really expecting the B550 to be much cheaper then the x570. You still get all the newer I/O ports that the x570 has. You just get less pcie 4.0 lanes. And you might get a better vrm.

Ill probably end up getting the Tuf gaming B550M-Plus wifi. Unless i find a better Matx with a 22110.

Edit: fixed naming.

Seriously overpriced motherboard, just might as well get the X570 versions or just stick with B450.

You're right! What an amazing feature, it's just incredible, AMD are so smart!

Sadly B450 prices won't drop, they are definitely the best boards to get as these B550 might just as well not exist.
