[Tom's Hardware] Intel Demos Tiger Lake's Xe Graphics on Early Laptop Sample with Battlefield V

Source: https://www.tomshardware.com/news/in...-battlefield-5

Quote:
We're getting our first look at Tiger Lake's graphics performance using Intel Xe graphics, courtesy of Ryan Shrout, the company's chief performance strategist.

Shrout posted a video on Twitter today, showing an early laptop (possibly a software development system) running Battlefield V with the resolution set to 1080p and the graphics preset placed on high. The game appeared to run consistently at 30 frames per second, occasionally going as high as 32 fps.
https://twitter.com/ryanshrout/statu...52056208850944

Pretty sweet, the demo is running using DX11. Curious if the performance would be better with DX12.

Hopefully the igpu idles well so it doesn't drain the battery when only a little of it is needed. I've got a 1050ti in a laptop that I practically never use in games since the screen is only 17.3.
Also: https://adoredtv.com/tiger-lake-xe-l...renoir-4900hs/ maybe already left AMD behind?

I think a 25W 4800U is faster because of LPDDR4X.

Lot of unknowns. The VII probably uses more than 25w for 512 of it's cores, so 25w 4800u is likely power throttled before cpu uses any. Tiger Lake also is probably power throttled and may also be held back by bandwidth depending on shader clocks. Xe also has +50% shaders and drivers for a new gpu arch on a problematic node, and for the not previously prioritized AAA-high graphics standards, are a big question mark at this point.
Before the Xe tiled rendering improvements it seemed like Intel was pretty close to GCN on performance per flop. Xe has more shaders, but Intel hasn't led AMD on gpu clocks since maybe Polaris (I've got a pre 780ti Haswell iris that does 1500 from a stock of 1300) and Xe likely can't do 1750 mhz.

I'm guessing which is faster will depend on how fast 96 EUs can run in their power and thermal constraints. Which will probably vary per product. But AMD's previous lead of shaders has just been flipped.

Not like either of these chips will be serious gamers. So hopefully the non gaming power draw doesn't suffer too much.

Well it will be 4c + a bit faster igpu or 8c. We know Intel has dominated laptops because of cpu not igpu.

That depends if mobile pcs with low power budgets are used more for light or heavy tasks. Ice Lake is already leading on low # of core tasks: https://cpu.userbenchmark.com/Compar...05639vsm888368

Intel have dominated laptops because of deals they have with OEM's. Even now that AMD have the superior solution OEM's are still putting out intentionally gimped AMD laptops.

It's actually hilarious, Intel was at one point giving OEMs their chips for free with the incentives they were providing OEMs to use their CPUs instead of the competitors. AMD simply cannot compete with the money Intel was putting down, and still can't, but if AMD continues the growth since Ryzen they'll eventually catch up.

This is where creating inferior AMD products comes from and it's disgusting. OEM's have got into the culture of creating inferior AMD laptops, even at the same price.
