ASUS has been a no go brand for about 10 years now, nothing new. Expensive but often junk designs with endless GPU cooling, even mobo problems and sometimes terrible monitor designs, infamous for worst service center/warranty experience and unfortunately had to verify that myself too once, never again. Popular brand that's milking it's fame.
Where does one go now? Prior to 2010 MSI was the one that always gave me problems. No experience with ASRock or Gigabyte.

For mobos it seems to change and one has to sift through the mess with each launch, one launch/chipset some boards are fine from brand A other times it's from brand B, you never know. It used to be that the underdogs/small brands would compete on the market and offer more for less, such as ASRock but those days are over as well I think now. Past Z97 it kind of went downhill with mobos, less features, more RGB, more money.

Laptops... who knows, you gotta do the research when you're buying. There is a huge quality, price and performance spread on laptops.
