Yes, technology gets cheaper. 7 years later a 6c/12t processor dropped to $250. Back in 2006 a dual core cost $354, a 6c/12t cost $600 from 2010-2013 then dropped to $390 with the release of the 5820k in 2014.

none of that matters wannabe. NONE OF IT.
not until the executives stop making a profit, so we can all save ~$35.

The point, gentlemen, is that improvements in technology and manufacturing have resulted in savings and benefits for the consumer.

These big fat monolithic chips are going to be expensive.

yep, such is life.

luckily, the monoliths should be gone in another generation or two.

Yeah, and that was before 2014 too. The 2014 chip would have been the 6c12t Haswell E 5820k for $396box/ $389oem.

But pricing of whatever consumer variant of Xe chiplet may come out is unknown. Intel has charged a lot in the past for the best chips. They have also charged very little the last time they were the underdog in a market and were trying to establish a segment with Atom. They have also been lowering prices lately due to competition. But generally charge as much as they can get away with. And some VII sized chiplets are likely cheaper to make than much larger monolithic ones. Especially if they are already making a ton of them for that supercomputer.

While not especially likely, I'm still holding out hope on getting a cut down 2 chiplet HP pcie model for not too much. With 7168 shaders like a pair of Vega56s would have.
