I would love to grab one of those 12 or 16 cores with 8 channel memory and higher PCIE lanes. I have been wanting a CPU with more expansion lanes, but I dont need or want 24+ cores

So they etched Threadripper on it instead of Epyc, big deal, the issue here is price, Epyc's are not cheap. Another issue is what motherboard that isn't server one for Epyc actually supports all the memory channels.
