Indeed, and both push the price substantially. I was looking at a higher model acer for both color professional and high res, it was over double the cost of the LG.

Spoiler!

Long story short, its the RT equivalent of display standards. When its available, its beautiful. Some games have the option for it and some don't, but you pay upfront for that benefit. Heck, RT has a better future. My nitro has HDR...and i have never been able to use it atm.

They have also been bought by a Chinese company since Jan 2020 and haven't made any real announcements regards it, which is pretty shady.

I thought HDR and RT can come together to have to best of both world, especially on an OLED screen?

You need HDR content, of which there is plenty. When it comes to HDR support in games, it's nowadays often locked down by developers to be able to adjust it so you're left with what ever good or bad job they do with their tone mapping and settings up.
HDR input support is on many monitors and TVs.
Only some monitors/TVs can actually display in higher dynamic range this means direct local illumination of what ever type or dual layer LCD.

HDR and RT/PT have absolutely nothing in common.

If you haven't yet been able to use HDR... well that's probably because you don't have any HDR movies or HDR capable games or your video player is not setup properly and converts internally to SDR.

RT can look even better in titles with properly implemented HDR. that's the only association.

but we all know HDR is really just secret imbedded tiddies tech. thus why all the boys love it.

seriously though - anything being sold as a high end screen, but lacks HDMI 2.1/comparable = trash.

I don't plan to connect a HDMI device to it so I don't mind. It supports DSC so DP 1.4 is fine.

They were so close.. but no HDMI 2.1. Im still waiting for a monitor that gives my PC an upgrade and allows 4k+HDMI-VRR on the PS5.

ideally i'd like to see a 32" 4k144hz Freesync+Gsync Compatible monitor with at least acceptable HDR like maybe 16-32 direct zones at minimum and it needs to have HDMI 2.1 with HDMI-VRR support. Most of these HDR600 monitors are like 8 edge lit zones which is basically worthless.

There's coffee in that nebula.

Im quite the big fan of all LG ultra gear nano IPS tech. The picture to me is a step above already IPS.

That said HDR400 standard is a waste and looks awful in most cases. Shouldn't even be a standard. I have tested 2 different panel with it already and walked away with a blegh taste in my mouth. It looks better turned off.

Edit: also After tasting ultra wide displays for awhile now I never would go back to a standard display even if its 4k/144hz. Id rather wait for 4k ultrawide at like 100hz.

Thankfully this is a HDR600 display with 16 local dimming zones.

I have yet to try out HDR600 though I also have heard wish washy opions on it.

Reality is it should be the min standard not hdr400.
