Intel has recently adjusted its product strategy and will postpone three 45nm quad-core CPUs that were originally scheduled to launch in January next year, according to sources at motherboard makers.
Intel has already notified its partners that it will push back the launch of the three CPUs to February or March next year, depending on AMD's schedule for triple-core and the upcoming Phenom CPUs.
Launching the CPUs now will not benefit Intel much in its battle with AMD, while they could cause damage to Intel's 65nm quad-core CPUs, therefore the company has decided it is in no rush to release new products until AMD is able to present more of a threat.
The three CPUs that Intel plans to delay are the Core 2 Quad Q9300, Q9450 and Q9550, added the sources.
Intel commented that its launch of 45nm quad-core CPUs for desktops is on track for first quarter 2008, but declined to disclose a specific time-frame.
*EDIT: There's more to this. The 45nm CPUs occupy half the die surface of the 65nm (at the same transistor count) so they are far cheaper to produce, even at 12MB L2 cache. If the 45nm ramp is fine, why is Intel throwing money out the window when they could simply replace the Q6600 - Q6850 with CPUs on 45nm that are cheaper to produce...

How will they sell their $1000+ Extreme Edition without that perk?

Arkanor, those are the funniest system specs I've ever seen. LOL

Btw, I heard its possible to overclock some of the TI-8x series. Have you tried it?

I think, therefore I am.

Good job AMD, just look at what your sorry Quads have done.

I hate having to wait for the Q9450 as it is. And now thanks to AMD not putting up a fight I will have to wait even longer.

Now I not only have to wait to upgrade my GPU but my CPU as well thanks to the lak of speed in AMD/ATi’s products.

Why release new things when stock of the old still exists and can be charged more for, especially considering people have compatible things with the old 65nm technology, and less have the same compatibilities with the 45nm.

It's obvious. Midori is a pun on "door" as Microsoft look to replace Windows with Doors.
