Bulldozers and server chips are efficient =p

those 48 cores probably use like 200W.

And 64 cores existed a long time ago, but the clocks were not too high.

it all depends on the workload.
That myth was started by an article which claimed that more then 8 CPU cores on a single die led to decreased performance, according to some British scientists studying nuclear explosions or something. Hardly reliable. If more then 8 cores actually decreased performance their would be no point to quad socket motherboards.

If AMD can make this type of platform stable and reliable then this could be usefull in workstations and for scientific/number crunching work. They would really need to focus and creating an efficient bus system to get the most out of all the cores, which I imagine would be almost infinitely complex.

I hope they give us a nice surprise by integrating graphene transistors, 3D transistors, and 16 or more cores on the 1st generation bulldozer at an appealing price. That would seriously be called FTW but I doubt it. Anyways, this is...weird. That's a pretty small rackmount.
