If the OS was actually readily available and could come in a non noob'ed up version that's not on rails/part of the locked in Apple eco-system, it could be quite a capable OS. Think OSX w/ mate desktop, apt-get package manager and the whole Linux ecosystem of applications available. What's missing from major Linux or any other FOSS distro right now over proprietary paid OS's is the polish factor, OSX is pretty darn polished but it's to the point where it's on rails. I tried using a Mac for a bit and while it was neat, seeing many scripts/commands I use crossing over, having to pay money for every single little thing I wanted to do that would otherwise have a full fledged/free version on Linux was horrible.
