There is something else about it that is weird and makes me question whether they are using people's GPUs solely for mining or also for other tasks like streaming / transcoding, which may put users in legal hot water if the streamed / transcoded content is not legal.

Certain parts of the FAQ and Terms & Conditions below seem to indicate that latency, Internet connection stability and speed to a certain destination is a big factor in the equation:

https://www.razer.com/softminer

Quote:
What should I do to earn the most Razer Silver from SoftMiner?

Ensure that you have/do the following:

1. A good internet connection, preferably using a wired connection
Quote:
How much Razer Silver can I earn within 24 hours?

That depends, as there is no cap on the Razer Silver earned. The combination of location, amount of time and the GPU of your gaming setup will contribute to your daily Razer Silver earned. If you have the proper setup, you can earn approximately 500 Razer Silver or more within a day!
Quote:
I am earning Razer Silver slower on certain occasions. What should I do?

There may either be a high volume of users who are using the software at the same time or your internet connection is unstable.

We recommend you to relaunch the software another time and with a consistent internet connection.
Quote:
9. The amount of Razer Silver earned will vary, depending on the computer’s GPU and setup. Factors include: stability and strength of internet connection.

Bold for emphasis.

How reasonable! Buy a shoddy peripheral from Razer, mine crypto for them, and in just 200 days you'll have enough 'Razer points' to purchase a new shoddy peripheral from them right around the time your original peripheral is falling apart. Cue Elton's 'Circle of Life'.

Farewel happy Fields; Where Joy for ever dwells; Hail horrours, hail; Infernal world, and thou profoundest Hell; Receive thy new Possessor; One who brings; A mind not to be chang'd by Place or Time; The mind is its own place, and in it self; Can make a Heav'n of Hell, a Hell of Heav'n.

• Generates additional profit for Razer and in exchange they will give you;
• Currency which is only applicable for their products at a rate which you will never be able to actually obtain anything

Shove it back where it belongs.

And others might argue "It's optional". You don't have to download this if you don't want to.

The issue here is that one day, this will probably be automatically running in the background. Sure... it's optional now but for all you know, they're already doing this.

The first comments in this thread already stir doubt... and for good reason.
Well put. The optics on this couldn't be more terrible.

I wouldn't want to be in business with any of you guys if you decided letting people choose to give us free money is a bad idea.
And no this isn't comparable to some form of predatory in-game microtransactions so you can stop right there.
It is a bit audacious to ask your users to participate in a mining program in the first place. Razer is a legitimate company with real products. This smacks of dark web, shady junk that I don't want to have to consider when I pay 80$ for a mouse that is already marked up 100%.

Optics shmoptics! If they think so little of me that they think they can get away with this, then I can return the favor and buy products from others who do not do this.

Optional or not... it's really a total scam. You could mine crypt on your own without razer as the middleman for far more profit... well, actually mining crypto isn't so profitable now. so you'd lose less money if you mine on your own

Why would you willingly decide to start a business just to go homeless?

#2 their debt is insane, even for a "diverse field" company. They cannot even afford to service the debt maintenance let alone make an actual dent in the debt itself. - Internet Stranger

I'd rather use Madcatz (both gamer crap) Razer has always been marketed to the "swag gamer" mountain dew/doritos call of duty crowd. People who purchase Razer products I would guess are in the 10-18 year old range. Actually, Razer isn't SO bad. I won a Razer keyboard from a game promo back in the day and sold it on ebay for $80. THANKS RAZER!!!! I would also expect nobody on this website uses Razer.

Does Razor still require you to be online to configure your mouse settings? Cloud drivers lmao.

How can anyone be so subservient for god's sake.
