Just say no thanks to login on M$ $tore and it starts downloading on it's own.
The store is accessible not just on Win10. If you're not on Win10 you're on Linux or you're nuts.

You can also direct download the APPX file and install it in developer mode...

No one sane will use these "stores" with all their fees, limitations, etc.

R20 has minimum test duration in it's preferences, maybe it can loop itself.

It runs standalone no problem and 7zipped it's around 147MB, mostly because the scene is 160MB huge in R20.

People on Windows 7 and 8.1 - with which R20 is compatible (Maxon says it themselves on their page) must use the web browser based Microsoft Store interface and in there you have no choice but to log in with a Microsoft account in order to download this software. If you're using the built-in Store interface from Windows 10, they are already gathering telemetry on you, that's the whole purpose of wall gardening this, and Maxon is probably aiming to benefit from only making it available on two walled garden stores.

So? Log in and download on outdated slower Windows, why not. Or run a virtual machine from a free Win10 temporary copy, download it there and copy the files.
I've already uninstalled the $tore app. It runs portable fine.

So? These companies are turning PC's into smartphones, slowly, but surely. You're going to be jumping through increasing amounts of crap in order to do things properly. Heck, when even AnandTech's own Dr. Ian Cutress feels the need to post the workaround to get the portable version in a comment on the article, that alone tells us that something is wrong with this approach when it comes to PC's. And it's only a workaround, he didn't solve the core issue. The Pook a few posts above did, though.

Lol, what's wrong with being logged in and just downloading it in the Store? I'm always logged into my MS account...

Just download, extract and run, it's fully portable. We've also included the missing Visual C runtime dependency and the manual.

Good stuff.

Will add to the OP.

BTW TPU version has "-TPU" written in all the results text files, otherwise it may be OK, unaltered. Why did they spam "-TPU" into all the results text files... don't know. You don't need the extra DLL they added you should already have it in your system or install the official necessary runtime.
Who reads manuals for software anyway All that at extra 50MB to download because of 90s ZIP compression.
