i may not always be happy with the electoral college result but i certainly am happy to have it.

Add +1 to that group then.

Don't miss out on anything actually. I have a smartphone like everyone else along with having access to all the same apps everybody else does but without any Google. It's called Yalp, microG, custom roms and a few other things.

whats so hard about having it bundled as a driver or some .msi /.exe that you can download and install off intel directly. it is a PC not some fruit hand held device

fyi it is not all, dont generalize everyone as sheeples. just because you are happy to use some fruit app store doesnt mean everyone else is

If it doesn't actually do anything better, it's hardly an improvement.

Personally, the more lightweight and austere the interface, the more I like it. I'll tolerate flash, but only if the aesthetic doesn't get in the way of functionality, or I have no choice.

Yeah, that's what it looked like to me. Thanks for the confirmation.

Of course people are free to live their lives however they like, but I just can't imagine that some nebulous sense of privacy (the very concept of which IMO is rather dubious to begin with in today's day and age) is at all worth the clear and significant inconvenience inherent in forgoing a modern smartphone (among other things). Just seems like you are missing out on a whole heck of a lot more benefits than you are gaining...
I realize I am in an extreme minority, but I do not feel inconvenienced by not owning a smartphone.

Not having any ID, now that's occasionally inconvenient...but more than worth it just for the comical interactions it produces in the modern surveillance states and 'papers please' societies I have to interact with that would have seemed like some Soviet dystopia barely 30 years ago.

...rightful liberty is unobstructed action according to our will within limits drawn around us by the equal rights of others. I do not add 'within the limits of the law,' because law is often but the tyrant's will, and always so when it violates the right of an individual. -- Thomas Jefferson

I never had an issue with the ATi CCC/AMD CCC but I only used it from the ATi 8500-HD 5770 after that I stopped touching AMD cards until the Vega 64. The entire Crimson UI was changed just for visuals. It's not easier to use and requires too many mouse drags/clicks and has slow animations. I prefer just being able to navigate an entire setting menu with arrow keys and tab. Intel's Command Center allows me to do so which I'm happy about.

Not sure what you're talking about, you can download and install it just fine without any kind of sign in or tie to a microsoft account.

I'm not a huge fan of the microsoft store, but that isn't one of its issues.

Don't spread misinformation...

The MS Store only asks to sigh in when downloading from the store, click cancel on the sign in it will still DL. You do not have to sign into an account to download something from the store! Unlike Google and Apple's Stores that force you to sign into an account to use, the MS store has no such restrictions. Only if the app requires payment do you need an account.

I did it 2 weeks ago when I setup a new laptop for an employee. Local Account only, was able to download apps fine.

But the MS store is just fine, I have no problem logging into my MS account. The Store works just fine, and really no reason not to just sign in. I'd rater use MS Store than every dev come out with a new store platform (cough*Epic*cough).

The simple act of connecting a device to the internet, you are already being tracked. As long as you have all the tracking turned off in windows, you are sitting better than the avg smartphone user. Even while being signed into a MS account.

The hate is valid, I literally have two games on it and nothing else (Both Forza Horizon games) and even I've had problems with it that were very common in the communities for those games around release day for the games or DLC...I remember when Fortune Island came out that the Forza subreddit and a few other choice areas were fille with people who preordered and preloaded the DLC having to redownload it because of an MS Store bug, likewise with the base game itself...Or the fact it was simply confusing to not only have the DLC itself download but the game recognise that you 1) have the DLC files there and 2) own a license for the DLC...And it didn't even really tell you anything about the download: It gives you a "xMB Downloaded of xxGB, x:xx remaining" style timer as is the norm but for a lot of users the latter filesize kept increasing (Which being the total amount of data to download, should be a set number I'd think) which also meant the time remaining would increase until it hit 100% and finished.

It's not unusable, but it's not great either as evidenced by the bulk of large game releases on it. And this is coming from someone who only uses Linux these days, so it should be pretty obvious I'm all for having a trusted, centralised repository of basically the vast majority of software you'd ever want.

Did you completely miss the news that Intel is going to start releasing dGPUs next year? This is what it's for, because Intel's windows drivers have been average at best for years because that's all they really ever needed to be.

And for anyone whose not aware, Linux is also getting new Intel drivers for the exact same reason too.
