[Xbox.com] Spotify, Chat, and more coming to Game Bar on Windows 10

Spotify, Chat, and more coming to Game Bar on Windows 10

Today, we are excited to begin testing several new features in beta for Game bar on Windows 10. Game bar is an overlay built into Windows that works over any PC game and can be brought up quickly by pressing the Windows key + G – “Win+G”. Check it out on the Xbox Insider Hub on your Windows 10 PC (more instructions below).

At X018, we shared a commitment to improve PC gaming on Windows 10 and, earlier this year, we kicked off a PC Gaming Idea Drive to get your suggestions. Today, we’re excited to introduce a number of new Game bar features, many inspired by your feedback, including controlling your music through Spotify, creating memes, chatting with friends to share in-game moments, and customizing the UI to your preferred layout. Insiders in our Windows Gaming flight ring can access these new features this week by pressing “Win+G” to bring up the Game bar when playing any PC game.

What is this "Windows key" they speak of? I have an empty void between the Ctrl and Alt keys.

You can set your own hotkey in the Gaming section of Windows Settings.

That audio panel does seem useful in an overlay, I guess it will control any browser or streaming app just like Volume Mixer. Shame every other overlay hasn't got it, it does seem like if you own the OS you could make the most functional and stable out of all of them.

Maybe I'm too old, but I don't understand the appeal of Spotify. I can get any song I've ever wanted via Youtube for free.

Can someone plz explain to me the draw of it?

Edit hit submit b4 finishing.........

I can think of two reasons of the top of my head.

1. User experience..

Youtube, while it works, is not as streamlined for music consumption. I can browse a catalogue from my favourite artist "x" quicker than youtube.

2. Less data for mobile users.

2-3mb song vs. a video which you have to load and stream. Maybe 50mb+ min?
Data caps for mobile phones in NA are ridiculous. Most people probably have 1-4gbs.
Europe or Asia is probably 50gb to unlimited so likely not a concern there...

You can pay for Youtube premium... but that is a joke just to be able to "close" your phone to listen to music. I'd just use Musi (app that lets you listen to Youtube videos for free).

Google has their own Music service called Google Play Music which is now replaced by YouTube Music. I pay for YouTube Premium which includes Google Play Music/YouTube Music and Gaming.

Just go to this link of you want to easily search music on YouTube:

THE VERY FIRST band I just searched on Youtube Music is missing an album there. I checked Spotify, and they have all of their albums there.

Nice service.
