skupples yeah but they will complain about emojis = added unicode support still on page 10 anyway because they would rather keep using ASCII.

A quick glance of the title led me to think for a moment that we were getting a standalone non-GUI version of Windows; now I am disappointed
We already have the powershell and cmd window... what do we need another one for? It looks interesting, but I would like to see something that runs on its own... perhaps free?

I don't think they went out of their way to support emoji. Emoji are just Unicode characters (or character sequences), and better out-of-the-box support for Unicode necessarily means better support for emoji. As for DirectX rendering: You get way better performance (the GDI renderer is horrendously slow) and vastly more flexibility with how and what you render. I imagine people will initially use that flexibility for gimmicks (see here and here and here), but I also think that it will be more accommodating to accessibility requirements as well.
