i must have been one of the very few people who never had any issues with ME. Vista on the other hand was a crash happy nightmare to deal with, if it wasn't for crysis and halo 2 i would have stuck with XP.

Vista was another one with a rough start with drivers but by the end it was basically win7 with the gadget bar. My ME laptop was a nightmare for my entire length of ownership but luckily the power port broke under warranty and the replacement had winxp.

Potato, potahhhhto!

Intel made the x86 lnstructions set for their 8086 if i recall correctly. I do believe they licensed it to companies like VIA, IBM, Cyrix (i had one of these).

AMD still holds a license to x86 because AMD owns their own x86-x64 set which in turn they license to INTEL.

Bottom line , if one were to die like some , intelligently want in this thread, the other would have to fork out a lot of cash in order to continue doing what they are doing today.

INTEL depends on AMD and vice versa.

Intel could easily drop AMD64 instructions the issue is getting Microsoft to adopt it. Again the reason we are where we are today was because Microsoft's influence on which instructions to use. Even though Linux had the first kernel that supported x86-64 developers still took 2-3 years to adopt it. IA-64 didn't take off since it dropped backwards compatibility with x86. While AMD-64 kept backwards compatibility with x86 which prevented a costly transition for M$.
