Exactly. I learned about peak boost stability when I was playing CS:Source. Even at 4k w/ 8x msaa the fps was very high and the gpu was boosting near 1680mhz. Due to this, the 1100mv I was running at the time couldn't hold stability. This is why my 'safe' settings are a clock speed around 1670mhz and volts at 1130mv.

but the gpu usage was high enough? isnt CS GO less demanding hence the usage would be lower? and cpu usage increases given Directx overhead when switching between frames?

The driver is very good as this be Hawaii and Ryzen 5 3600 at default speeds with 16Gb of G SKill clocked at 3200Mhz 16-18-18-18-1T on 350b Mobo as to answer the question of how much tech did 290x really have under the hood as Free Sync is running . I am thinking of going into bios and set to Gen 4 PCI Express just to test it out .

Ryzen 5 3600
Gigabyte AB350M-DS3H CF
G-SKill 16Gb
Red Dragon RX 570 8Gb
Corsair TX 650 watt

1020 core and stock memory speeds? Comeon man, give that 290x a bump - your 3600 will appreciate it.

19.8.1 is out but it broke Core overclocking on the Radeon VII for me. Installed it multiple times, re-installed 19.7.5 and Core overclocking works fine again.
