Even I admit Control looks nice. The dev turned up the reflection levels a bit high for my taste but I'll give them artistic license for that.

The base game does not look that good. Not sharp enough even at 4K Native. Add RTX and I see too much noise from weak hybrid RT.

Some devs just make soft looking games. Something like that simply hides DLSS flaws.

12ft away from a 75", I don't have any complaints re sharpness at 4k W dlss but maybe thats specific to my setup. Frame rate with OC'd 2080ti w dlss is very good (60fps average for sure) , but I am only a couple of hours in

This has got to be one of the best looking games ever. What looks better? I have this way above most of the other AAA stuff I have played this yr eg Anthem , Metro Exodus etc

I am 2 feet away from 55" 4K. If pixels are not sharp I can see them. The base game without RTX looks trash in comparison to Metro/Anthem. Maybe its the filter they use.

That is way too close to my taste.
I have a 34 wide and I'm sitting almost 2.5 feet away from it. Sitting 2 feet from a 55 feels like you need to press your nose to the screen to play. Hard core pixel peeping.

Maybe AMD will do it better with their DirectML approach?

They won't. Upscaling is simply not a good technology as it can never have a positive effect on image quality. Literally the best they can hope for is that the end result is the same, and they will never achieve it.

One could try to state that upscaling with denoise results in higher performance, but do you know what would also result in higher performance? Not allocating some of your power and die budget to cores that can not be used for normal workloads.

The issue is, just like with gsync, that you only get a budget focused feature when you spend a premium. Besides, 4K isn't that expensive for cheaper monitors/TVs, and it can handle perfect scaling from 720p and 1080p. If you own a 1080p screen, then you can already get acceptable performance far below the lowest chip that offers DLSS.
