[Various] New Steam Library and Events overhauls, Sept. 17th

Quote:
Steam is getting a mini overhaul in September, with a new Steam Library layout that gives users more ways to organize their games, a new Steam Events tool that helps developers communicate with their player base, and a few new experiments from the team at Steam Labs. Valve held a private media briefing ahead of PAX West where it discussed the update as well as upcoming plans for both Steamworks and Steam Labs. Updates for all three programs will launch throughout this month.

The open beta for the new Steam Library will launch on Sept. 17 while a new centralized tool for announcements, Steam Events, will be released on Sept. 4. An update for the Steam Labs micro trailer experiment and a new search tool, both new experiments in Steam Labs, will launch on Sept. 5. All players will be able to opt into the beta.

sorry, the more i read about it, the less i like it.

”The goal here is overall just to help players find the next game that they might want to play,” said Valve designer Alden Kroll. “This is a number of different ways of surfacing things that are in that player’s library that might give them a reason they may want to play that game right now.”

bah, i hate getting suggestions - i prefer to find things on my own. the store page is bad enough.

to be honest i just want/need a launcher, i have ~60 games and for me, that isn't hard to keep track of. but if others find this the bee's knees; i'm happy for them as long as i can still just right click on the task bar icon and launch the last 3-5 of games i am play atm. there is maybe 3-4 games i'll replay over the years. most are one and done.

New method to profile you so they could show you relevant ads games based on your browsing gaming history.

Probably seen how much better their competitor's platform looks and decided to step it up.

Really hope they give us an easy way to filter out indie games and 2d games when browsing.

Nothing against those types of games, but they are a dime a dozen on Steam and with so many of them it becomes almost impossible to browse for anything else.

Just a way to filter games (preferably with user-definable defaults which can be altered on a "per search" basis) because Steam currently bombards me with multiplayer-only FPS games, MMOs and horror games in my "queue". None of which I have interest in. It's like Steam is stuck remembering what I was playing 8 years ago, when I was playing Bad Company 2 off and on.

Its slow in spots but pretty sharp. Text opacity could use some adjusting. Categories are called Collections now. The collections view will generate thumbnails of the actual games in the collection.

i don't see any difference

steam, fudge the bullshart... give us a clan tab already. Your "friends list" simply isn't good enough, and never has been. Your "group" event nonsense is a total joke.

R.I.P. Zawarudo, may you OC angels' wings in heaven.
