Hi,
Quote:
While V-Ray Hybrid can render on CPUs and GPUs simultaneously, CPU cores and GPU cores are not the same. For example, a GPU with 2560 cores is not simply 320 times faster than an 8 core CPU. To determine the actual speed difference, real-world benchmark tests are required
Using blender which has or some have gpu render files as well as cpu render files BMW free demo file does anyway and cpu is always faster on 1080ti and titan Xp on a 10 core 20 thread 7900x.
Haven't tried a 5930k 6 core 12 thread though or don't remember the outcome anyway

No, you need the AMD card with an SSD on it as a VRAM/cache.

Plus serious projects render on a server farm anyway.

In the end it's more about which middleware/renderer is more optimized for what hardware, how much that hardware costs and the whole solution scales.

I don't have a nVidia GPU to compare the three.

hmm.. CPU has less artifacts, still... for projects that don't require perfect precision that's a nice render time

But anyway, what CPU do you have?

That was using OptiX with 2x Titan RTX.

Did you get it from the demo files or is it the old benchmark?

https://www.blender.org/download/demo-files/

There are three versions of this benchmark.

- Oldest: Single car. Info in a box about Pan's render times C2Q and GTX 570. 200 samples. BMW1M-MikePan.blend
- Older: Two cars. Info in a box about Pan's render times i7 and GTX 770. 20 samples. BMW27.blend
- New: From demo files. 35 samples. bmw27_cpu.blend and bmw27_gpu.blend

The RAM usage indicates "older" which is much less taxing than "new" and your CPU should do much better. My i7 [email protected] is doing ~2:25 in that bench.
