[TechPowerUp] AMD Radeon "Navi" OpenCL Bug Makes it Unfit for [email protected]

TechPowerUp

Quote:
A bug with the Radeon RX 5700-series "Navi" OpenCL compute API ICD (installable client driver) is causing the GPUs to crunch incorrect results for distributed compute project [email protected] Since there are "many" Navi GPUs crunching the project cross-validating each others' incorrect results, the large volume of incorrect results are able to beat the platform's algorithm and passing statistical validation, "polluting" the [email protected] database.
I'm guessing this is why we haven't seen Navi support added to ROCm since this problem has been known since September.

A driver bug is causing OpenCL errors? Misleading title.

I forgot to add the link. That's the article title.

It only happens with Navi cards.

GPU compute was never as guaranteed as it may be on CPUs, that's the price to pay for performance. Be it lower precision or other stuff.

Who thought of cross validating using equal hardware? Simple fix, stop doing that nonsense. Require different hardware for validation, be it not same brand or not same chip, at least something.

Amazing that they allow same GPU type to validate the result

► Recommended GPU Projects: [email protected] , [email protected] (FP64) (AMD moreso) ► Other notable GPU projects: [email protected] (Nvidia), GPUGrid (Nvidia) ► Project list
